Abstract

|
Human infestation with sparganum, which is the genus Spirometa, was first reported by Manson in 1811. The adult form harbors in the small intestine of the dogs or cast. Human infestation occurs through consumption of intermediate hosts such as
cyclops,
frogs and snakes. We experienced 18 cases of sparganosis, among them 3 cases were in the breast. They were confirmed by surgical excision f the mass, and the plain mammography showed characteristic finding of cord-like well lobulated mass. This
mammographic finding of the sparganosis might be useful for the differential point against other breast masses.
